The School of Biological Sciences houses a variety of programs related to biomedical, organismal, and environmental sciences.  The classes in each of our programs are taught by faculty with degrees in areas of biological sciences or medical technology.  After the introductory biology sequence, class sizes range from 20-60 students with laboratory sections at ~24 students each.  This smaller class size allows students the opportunity to engage with faculty.  In addition, all faculty hold a minimum of 10 office hours each week, making them easily accessible to the students to answer questions, assist with assignments, and get to know the students.  The ability to build these relationships with faculty enables our students to have more personal letters of recommendation for graduate and professional school, helps them identify research and internship opportunities, and aids them in being as successful as they can be at Louisiana Tech.  Each program has a faculty contact that can be found on the specific program page if you have any additional questions.

Academics Offered

Biology (B.S.) and Biology (M.S.)

The Bachelors in Biology includes the Biological Sciences Concentration, most appropriate for students with an interest in applying for medical school, as well as an Applied Biology Concentration, which offers students a more varied biological sciences education.

The Master’s in Biology offers a thesis and nonthesis track where students may conduct faculty-led research or pursue a course-only curriculum.

Medical Technology (B.S.)

The Medical Technology Program prepares students to enter the field as a clinical laboratory scientist.

Environmental Science (B.S.)

The Environmental Science Program is designed for students with an interest in biology and the environment, preparing students for graduate school and careers in the field.

Molecular Sciences and Nanotechnology (M.S.) and Molecular Sciences and Nanotechnology (Ph.D.)

The Molecular Science and Nanotechnology Program is an interdisciplinary program that allows students to complete a Master’s or PhD while exploring the intersection of biology and engineering.

The Master’s in Biology offers a thesis and nonthesis track where students may conduct faculty-led research or pursue a course-only curriculum.
