brain-logo.gif (9732 bytes) Welcome to Introduction to the Brain (BISC 482).  The purpose of this 2-hour online course is to help students learn more about the structure and function of the brain.  This course is not intended to substitute for an in-depth 3-hour course on all of the detailed functioning of the human brain.  Rather, the course is designed to provide an introductory overview of the major structural features of the brain and the functions associated with these structural features.

The course is directed towards undergraduate students in the School of Biological Sciences at Louisiana Tech University.  The course may also be of interest to students in other areas of study such as biomedical engineering, pharmacy, sociology, and nursing.

This course is offered for 2-hours of credit, and will require an estimated 30 hours to complete.  There will be two multiple choice tests which must be taken on campus.  Special arrangements can be made to take the tests online for long-distance students.  Apart from the two tests, the course can be taken entirely online at the student's own time and pace.  All course material is included online, so no textbook is required.
