Welcome to BISC 420 (Environmental Physiology)

Bears.jpg (53334 bytes) This is the information site for Environmental Physiology (BISC 420) and for Graduate Environmental Physiology (BISC 520) .  The prerequisite for this course is BISC 320 (Animal Physiology) or the BISC 225/227 (Human Anatomy and Physiology) series.

Environmental physiology is a 3-hour, on-line course that centers on physiological adaptations which enable various animal species to survive and function within their environments.  Certain animals are adapted to extreme environments (such as deserts, high altitude, intense cold, high pressure).  The physiological and behavioral strategies employed by animals to survive in such environments are of particular interest in Environmental Physiology.

This area of study is also sometimes referred to as Ecophysiology or Physiological Ecology.
