General Information:
  • Master of Science Degree
  • Five concentrations offered
    • Early Childhood Administration
    • Early Childhood Education (Must be certified as early childhood teacher)
    • Family & Consumer Sciences Education (teacher certification required)
    • Family & Child Development
    • General Human Ecology
  • Degree program is 30 hours (thesis option) or 36 hours (non-thesis option)
  • All students complete individual research/ education/ development project: thesis or multi-quarter project (non-thesis option)
  • Specialized courses offered evenings and weekends to accommodate employed graduate students
  • Graduate assistantships and scholarships available

    • Human Ecology 504: Research Methodology (3 hours)
    • Human Ecology 546: Microcomputer Applications of Research (3 hours)
    • Statistics 402: Introduction to Statistics (3 hours) OR Statistics 405: Statistical Methods (3 hours) or PSY 542 Statistical Methods in Behavioral Science
    • Human Ecology 551: Thesis (6 hours) OR Human Ecology 506: Multi-quarter project (6 hours)
  • Concentration requirements
    • Early Childhood Administration Concentration
      • Human Ecology 505: Supervision Early Childhood (3 hours)
      • FCS 561: Administration of ECE Programs (3 hours)
      • FCS 530: Early Childhood Programs (3 hours)
      • Management 537: Human Resources Management (3 hours)
      • Additional hours: 3 for thesis option OR with at least 6 in FCS for non-thesis option
    • Early Childhood Education Concentration
      • Human Ecology 505: Supervision Early Childhood (3 hours)
      • FCS 502: Advanced Child Development (3 hours)
      • FCS 530: Early Childhood Programs (3 hours)
      • Additional hours: 6 for thesis option OR 12 with at least 6 in FCS for non-thesis option
    • Family and Consumer Sciences Education Concentration
      • Human Ecology 505: Supervision Human Ecology (3 hours)
      • Additional hours: 12 with at least 6 in Human Ecology content for thesis option OR 18 with at least 12 in Human Ecology content for non-thesis option
    • Family and Child Development Concentration
      • Application Content: FCS 420 OR FCS 501 OR HE 515 (3 hours)
      • Family Content: FCS 520 OR FCS 521 (3 hours)
      • Development Content: FCS 477 OR FCS 502 OR FCS 510 (3 hours)
      • Additional hours: 6 with 3 in FCS or HE for thesis option OR 12 with 6 in FCS for non-thesis option
    • General Human Ecology Concentration
      • 9 hours that include at least three of the four areas in human ecology (Family & Child Studies; Food & Nutrition; Human Ecology; Merchandising & Consumer Sciences)
      • Additional hours: 6 hours for thesis option or 12 with minimum of 6 in human ecology for non-thesis option

Admission Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in human ecology or related field from an accredited university
  • 2.75 GPA overall or on last 60 hours
  • Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination
