Rodney McKay
A native of Avoyelles Parish, Rodney accomplished an Industrial Engineering degree from Louisiana Tech University in 1999 and served in various engineering positions for over 13 years. After living in Memphis for a short time, he made the decision to return to La Tech in 2012 to be closer to family. His second career started with pursuing a bachelor of science in Forest Management with a Wildlife Management minor.
Through undergraduate student work on longleaf pine, he developed a passion for the longleaf pine ecosystem along with an internship with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, gaining valuable experience he would call on quickly in his first position of a new career. In 2015 upon his second graduation from Tech, he joined National Wild Turkey Federation as a forester supporting longleaf pine ecosystem management in 6 parishes of Louisiana. Through this work, he developed valuable relationships that would reach far beyond the longleaf pine ecosystem.
His career would take a couple turns but eventually landed him a unique position managing a large tract of land for a non-profit organization. While enhancing the habitat on the property for a diversity of wildlife and replanting longleaf pine, he also manages the education initiatives for the organization. This includes multiple workshops, university involvement and coursework, research, and certification courses, all utilizing the foundation facilities and property to support the needs of each event.
Rodney currently lives in Sabine Parish and is a member of a local church. He volunteers for multiple organizations in Louisiana and enjoys the new career and being closer to family and friends.
