Agriculture sciences program to hold farm production sale
Animals suitable for raising, breeding, riding and eating will be featured in Louisiana Tech’s 41st University Farm Production Sale. The auction is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, May 7 at Tech’s Equine Center. It will include show goat and dairy show heifer prospects. Animals sold in previous years have placed at parish shows, the Ag Expo, Southern University’s Junior Livestock Show and the Louisiana State Fair. Consumers can take advantage of finished market steers and hogs. Those market animals will be processed at the Tech Meats Lab at no additional cost to the buyer. The sale will also feature 20 commercial Brangus heifers and 15 horses — quarter horses and paints. Besides raising money for Tech’s agricultural sciences program, the sale — organized by the program’s faculty, staff and students — “provides an excellent learning experience for the students involved,” said Gary Kennedy, head of the department of agricultural sciences. More information is available from Kennedy at 318-257-3275 or email@example.com or on the sale’s Web site at www.livestocksale.latech.edu.
