Student nurses at Louisiana Tech had an opportunity to serve the community and experience hands-on learning at Ruston High School. Thirteen students from Nursing 110 and the 114 classes assisted in Athletic Day, where the student nurses took blood pressures and checked pluses and respiration for 448 potential athletes. “This is an annual event that is held for the students of Lincoln Parish who participate in sports and cheerleading,” said Paula Brooks, an assistant professor of nursing. “The students thought it was a great learning experience. The focus of Nursing 110 is the elderly client and so they were able to get a different perspective on assessing clients from a different age group.”
