Health informatics program ranked third most affordable in U.S.
MBA Healthcare Management, an online resource guide for students exploring and picking the best healthcare management programs, has ranked Louisiana Tech University’s Master of Health Informatics (MHI) program as the third most affordable in the nation.
Tuition for Louisiana Tech’s MHI program, based on average in-state costs, was listed at $5,878, earning it the No. 3 spot in the list of the “Top 25 Master’s in Healthcare Informatics Degrees Ranked by Affordability 2014.” Marshall University and University of Utah topped the list at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.
MBA Healthcare Management’s list is based on factors such as programs that have received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), member institutions taking part in AMIA’s Academic Forum, programs that offer online or hybrid formats, and tuition based on average in-state tuition statistics from the College Navigator or U.S. News and World Report.
“The Health Informatics and Information Management faculty and staff are dedicated to providing Louisiana Tech students with a world class educational experience that prepares them for the workforce of today and the workforce of the future,” said Dr. Angela Kennedy, professor and department head for Louisiana Tech’s health informatics and information management program. “Our students are challenged with a rigorous curriculum and are mentored in areas of research and service to the industry.”
Kennedy says that healthcare comprises 17 percent of our nation’s GDP and her program’s goal is to populate the healthcare ecosystem with leaders who will meet the goal of healthcare’s triple aim: reducing cost, improving quality, and improving the health of the population.
According to the MBA Healthcare Management website, the medical field continues to move towards a stronger reliance on information technology to ensure the accuracy and safety of patient data to improve outcomes, and the clinical data analytics market is getting red hot. In fact, employment of informatics specialists is expected to grow rapidly at the rate of 36 percent before 2022.
Louisiana Tech’s MHI program is designed to prepare confident, innovative, and contributing professionals who can identify and use a variety of information systems resources and technologies to accomplish the informatics and information management objectives of diverse healthcare practice environments. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) and is designed for individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
