Tech professor recipient of March of Dimes award
A Louisiana Tech nursing professor has been honored by the March of Dimes.
Nancy Darland, who is a perinatal clinical nurse specialist and adviser to Tech’s Student Nurses Team, was named the 2011 recipient of the Battered Boot Award, the highest volunteer honor in the March of Dimes Foundation. Those who receive it are recognized for their loyalty and dedication to the program.
Darland has volunteered with the March of Dimes for several years and coordinates several Student Nurses Team events, including the Diaper Derby and Baseball Days. Her 8-year-old grandson, Bankston, was born 12 weeks early and fought for his life, and Darland frequently tells his story.
The Ruston March for Babies is set for Saturday, April 30. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Lambright Intramural Center with the walk beginning at 9 a.m. Team captain meetings will be Feb. 15, March 15 and April 19 at noon at the Community Trust Bank Community Room. Individuals interested in participating or donating may contact Darland at 318-257-2200, David Darland at 318-254-7457 or March of Dimes Community Director Sharon Davis at 387-3650 or 318-372-1975.
