Eleven nursing students from the Division of Nursing Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) represented Louisiana Tech University at the Louisiana Association of Student Nurses (LASN) 58th Annual Convention recently in Kenner, La. The Louisiana Tech Chapter received awards for Best Projection of the Image of Nursing Award for “Be Careful Who You Court,” STI Awareness and Prevention held at Louisiana Tech, and the LASN Best Overall Community Service Award for participation in Louisiana Tech’s “Big Event.” Louisiana Tech faculty advisors Paula Books, Patti McFadden and Tanya Sims gave presentations on STI Awareness. The 58 member chapter of Tech’s SNA also participated in community service for the LASN 2012 Disaster Preparedness Project Blanket Drive, donating 32 blankets at the convention. Tech’s SNA President Mae Flager completed a successful year as a representative on the LASN 2011-2012 Board of Directors serving as editor of the LASN online newsletter, “Horizons.”  Krystal Hunt was elected as the Region I Director for the 2012-2013 year, representing Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, Grambling State, Northwestern State and Southern University, at the state level. The theme for the convention was “Nurses Are Rooted in Tradition.” In keeping with the purpose of LASN to promote and improve education and highest quality health care, educational programs were held to enhance nursing education and to give professional guidance for future career options and licensure exam preparation.
